Another mid-range dual-SIM social networking phone to hit the Indian market, the LAVA A9 is a “small mobile computer” that offers a host of features at a value-for-money price of Rs. 5,999. A compact handset with a 2.4-inch TFT display, it is aimed at the fashion/tech/budget conscious youth of nation.

Available in silver & white colours, the LAVA A9’s specifications include: 3.2 MP camera, FM radio and recording, MP3/4 support, WAP & GPRS, and Java support. The phone also comes bundled with a variety of software and applications, including email support, Opera Mini mobile browser, a range of Java embedded games, contacts back up, media player, and Nimbuzz – an award winning instant-messenger application that lets users manage and communicate with all their IM contacts and friends simultaneously, whether it is on Skype, Yahoo Messenger, Windows Live Messenger, GTalk, AIM, MySpace, ICQ, or others. Nimbuzz also features a dynamic address book or “live contact list”, that lets users keep up with other’s status and activity on a single platform.

Similar to the Fly LINKZ phone launched by Meridian Mobile, the LAVA A9 offers many comparable features at a comparable price – the Fly LINKZ is priced at Rs.5,509. The key difference lies in the fact that the Fly LINKZ is a full-touch phone, with an accelerometer and motion sensor, where as the LAVA A9 has a more conventional interface, and might appeal to those who are not yet used to full-touch, or those who do not really like the full-touch interface. The Fly LINKZ can also be called more feature-rich, and includes Snaptu, a popular social networking application that lets users simultaneously connect with all their friends, contacts, and events from Twitter, Facebook, Picasa, Flickr and Google Calendar, and receive updates from the user’s favourite news sources from across the world.
