Early in 2010, Apple took the handheld computer world by storm when it unveiled the first iPad. Following the instant success of the tablet, competing companies went to work immediately on creating their own tablets to woo the market. Although hardly anybody came close to challenging the popularity of the iPad, Samsung’s Galaxy Tab was tipped to rival the Apple bombshell. The Galaxy Tab never lived up its hype, however, and the main culprit was the poor software implementation – the undercooked Android Froyo.
Fast forward to 2011, and several new tablets sporting Android’s new Honeycomb flavour are starting to bring a halt to iPad’s near uninterrupted run in the tablet space. The most notable of them are Samsung’s multiple tablet offerings under various shapes and sizes, all branded under the popular Galaxy line. The latest offering under this wing is the 7.7-inch Galaxy Tab.
As the name implies, this device sports a 7.7-inch screen, touting a Super AMOLED Plus display. Running on Android 3.2 Honeycomb OS, the Galaxy Tab 7.7 is skinned with Samsung’s proprietary TouchWix UX – an interface designed specifically for tablets. At the heart of the device is Samsung’s home grown dual-core 1.4 GHz processor, 8 GB of RAM, internal storage of up to 64 GB, a 5100 mAH battery that boasts 10 hours of juice and dual cameras – 3 MP on rear and 2 MP on front.
In a nutshell, the Galaxy Tab 7.7 is aimed at replacing the original Tab, offering that just-right size, better specs, improved software and a brilliant display.
